Dear Member
Well it’s that time of year again…. Nearly all over for this season, but we still have a couple of things on the agenda that all need your support and attendance please:
- Monday 4th May – Lytchett 7’s tournament (please speak to Rich Haigh if you would like to play)
- Wednesday 6th May, @ 7pm – Annual AGM, this is an important meeting, when you will get the opportunity to vote for next year’s committee as well as 2 new Captains. You also get to vote for the awards for this season. In addition, we all get to talk openly about the club, finances and objectives.
- Saturday 16th May, @ 7pm – End of Season Dinner and awards ceremony at the Old Vicarage Hotel in Hinton Admiral. The ladies are also invited this year. I need get the money and numbers for this asap, so please drop you money over to me at 46 Clingan Road or bring it to training or the AGM.
- Saturday 23rd – Sunday 24th May – Bournemouth 7’s + camping. We have prepaid for a squad of 15 to attend. (please speak to Rich Haigh if you would like to play)
And then it’s the long sunny evenings of the summer, when we can all watch the Lions roar in South Africa and prepare ourselves for next season which will as usual come around very quickly.
It’s been a tough season all round this year, but mostly down to you lot we have managed to stay in Hampshire 1 (just!). I’d like to take this opportunity to thank a few people: the Committee, who as usual we all take for granted, but do a huge amount of work behind the scenes to enable us all to play on Saturdays, both Captains who are both standing down at the end of this season, the Coaches for turning out rain and shine to coach those of you that have bothered to attend training and for Lordy for his fitness training on Tuesdays. But most importantly, I’d like to thank those of you who have put your bodies on the line week in and week out.
However, I’d really like you all to reflect on this season and picture where we would have ended up in both leagues if we’d all just put in a little bit more effort by attending training sessions every week. Let’s make next season one of consolidation, with us regularly putting both the 1XV and 2XV out for games and MOST importantly making sure we are all committed to training sessions and our fitness levels. (I include myself in this request). I firmly believe that a lot of the injuries sustained this season have been purely down to poor fitness.
So, I look forward to seeing you at the AGM and the dinner in the next couple of weeks.
Yours in Rugby
Phil Carter
Chairman
