The 2006/2007 season was the best in the clubs history. EDRFC won the coverted double winning Hampshire 2 and the Hampshire Plate 33-0 v Marlborough at North Dorset RFC. The club runs a 1st and 2nd XV so there is plenty of opportunity for new players and members of the local community to come down and enjoy either playing for or supporting their local rugby team on saturday afternoons. Matches usually kick off at 3.00pm.

Our first season in Hampshire 1 has resulted in us coming third. Our target next year is to get into the playoffs, and so if any new players share that ambition and want to play in the London Divisions then please get in contact with the club captain whos number is given below.

At the AGM Diane Payne stepped down from the position of Club Chairman. The club would like to thank Diane for all her hard work, loyalty and support over the last 10 years. She has made a fantastic contribution ;o) Phil Carter was voted in as the new chairman, and we wish him the best of luck in leading the club forward with our development plan.

The Mini/Midi rugby sessions are a real success, some weeks we've had over 30 kids coming to the sessions. A lot of credit must go to Coach Carter who has made the sessions fun and enjoyable for the children that turn up. The sessions have now restarted and this year we will look at building on the successful start and perhaps even get some fixtures in. Mini members.. get chatting in the forums section!

East Dorset then & Now

East Dorset Rugby Club was known as Portcastrians until 2003. Under guidance from the RFU the name was changed to attract more local players and sponsorship; a decision that has worked well to achieve both. Portchester School games master Niel Grant founded the club in 1966. Matches were first played at Merrick Park in the center of Bournemouth, with local pubs being patroned for post game socialising. The main haunt of those early years was the Cricketers Arms in Springbourne. more
Clubhouse Development

Clubhouse development: The Club President Gary Fretton is currently working very hard to gain finance for a new clubhouse. We invisage this being used not only by us but also the local football, tennis and BMX clubs that use Ilford playing fields. News to follow! more
